How to Host a Successful Giveaway in 2023
5 years ago, giveaways were a huge driver in a social media strategy, however as Instagram grew, we then saw a huge drop in giveaways due to many starting to feel too ‘spammy’. Today you can host AMAZING giveaways but you have to get smarter with it. Don’t worry I’m here, to tell you how you can do so.
So, let’s get into my 5 top tips on how to host a classy, exciting and fun giveaway that you’ll wish you could enter too!
1. Set your purpose 💅
Ask yourself why are you hosting one? Usually, reasons like follower growth, brand awareness or giving back to the community or more come to mind. Get really clear on why you are doing this and make sure you align your goals to the giveaway rules. Giveaways should not feel forced or done too frequently to avoid losing your client’s trust.
2. Choose your gift 🎁
This has to reflect your brand and be an exciting piece too. My advice would be to pick something your business can afford, but don’t give away your small samples or old products! Your audience aren’t silly and we all want great gifts that are worth sharing on our stories and telling our friends about.
3. Get creative 🎨
The days are gone where you can just take a still photo of the gifts and stick a ‘GIVEAWAY’ text over it, for it to do well. Can you film an unboxing reel instead? Think of the types of content your audience reacts well with in the first place and deliver those. It might be a video of you/content creator speaking and describing/using/styling the gifts.
4. Marketing-queen vibes👑
Don’t stop with just one post, think of how your stories will look on the day and a week before the giveaway goes live. Create a cool ‘countdown’ and how you can really create a buzz around this amazing gift to your audience! Make sure your caption has clear guidelines and reflects your goals from point 1 for those who enter to do exactly that. E.g. tag your 2 besties, share on your stories, follow us. Ideally, I highly recommend to boost and put some marketing budget towards ads around the time of the giveaway.
5. Don’t pick an influencer 🧐
As your giveaway comes to a close and hopefully has reached your exact expectations, if not more! Make sure you pick a winner that’s a genuine person. Avoid those who enter a giveaway once a week, don’t just go for someone with a high following and really make a fair decision that would reflect the brand. You can also use an auto-generated app on stories so it’s super fair to all. Once the winner has been announced, let those who didn’t win know that there will be more to come to avoid a sudden following-drop.
I hope this helps you host your first or a refreshed giveaway in 2023, I can’t wait to see it. Make sure you tag us so we can enter, seriously ;). Good luck & have fun!
