Low Engagement & 5 Reasons For It

If you’re struggling with low engagement, here are 5 reasons that could be behind it! 🌴

1. Reels being prioritised
We have less time to consume content online and short videos catch our attention fast. Since Instagram is in high competition with video-first social platforms, you may have noticed Reels appearing more - Especially with the latest update: Reels ADs!

2. The Time of Year
It's normal for engagement to change throughout the year. Chances are a lot of your audience is either away on holiday or enjoying the sun outside in their free time, just like you.

3. Economic Circumstances
We all know the economic climate right now can be stressful. Some of your audience may be facing redundancies or working extra hours to cover the rising cost of living. Hence, spending less time on social media…

4. Sports & Reality TV
This time of year is also popular for many sporting events e.g. Wimbledon, Women's Euros, Ascot Races etc... It's also a time when music festivals and popular reality TV shows are on! (Miss you Love Island)

5: Algorithm Changes & Updates
Instagram has been testing out lots of new features since June, which inevitably changes the algorithm! Plus during summer, people will engage with different types of content e.g. more inspiration and entertainment.

My takeaways:
- Check your INSIGHTS & identify what your audience is enjoying right now. Prioritise this type of content in your strategy.

- Continue posting! If many aren't posting, those interested in your posts will be seeing your posts.

- Engage with your COMMUNITY! Now is an excellent time to use Q boxes and ASK your audience what they want from you

- Do industry research & check out your competitors! Find out what's working for them.

- Enjoy your summer and take time out, if not now - when?

- Spend this time planning your next big launch in time for Autumn/Winter

I hope you feel a little better about the lower engagement, we’re in this together!
